Theory Final
Now that I am done with music theory for the rest of my undergrad, I thought I would complain/bitch about the final a little bit. Broman is a cool dude, and the thought of a take home final is awesome. The format of the take home final? Five essay questions? Not so cool... For your viewing pleasure, I bring you Dr. Broman's Theory IV take home final.
1.) Discuss different strategies composers took in terms of pitch organizations in lieu of major-minor tonality
2.) Although vastly different in sound, both the music of Webern and Part show similarities in terms of organizations. Elaborate, please.
3.)A lot of 20th Century theoretical practices focus on pitch-class rather than pitch relations. Explain how this statement is true; and then discuss how this fact relates to tonal theory
4.) Although Bernard Herrmann's musical language is not particularly radical, his impact as a film composer is immense. Explain how this statement is true; then discuss how this fact relates to tonal theory.
5.) Finally, write a personal reflection over the impact of this course on your understanding and appreciation of 20th century music.
Holy poo gas! I hate essay questions! Especially over theory. Granted, this is the only real exam that I have this week, I just thought of it as bitch worthy. Especially the last question! Yay for BSing answers!
