Music Talk

I got to teach my high school kid again tonight and he brought a horn, NOT a mello!!! Woo! Turns out his school has lots of them, just that their directors are too lazy to teach them the horn and let them play mello year round, even for concert band. I want to go punch the directors in the face, especially if they are that lazy! Grrr! I understand funding and time constraints and yada yada yada, but if you have a bunch laying around, teach the kids, that's your job, you get paid to do that!

Now before I keep going on my wild tangent, like I said, my kid brought a horn today. The condition it was in surprised me. I was expecting to see a horn with "red rot" and looked like it had been run over by a car. It was in fairly good condition, well, there were some dents that looked like a stand attacked it, but there's hardly any tarnish spots or anything. It's in really good condition for a high school horn. I am going to have to do some repair work on it this week. All the valves need restrung and oiled and the slides need greased, which isn't a big deal. I just hate restringing valves. I let the kid play my horn tonight *cringe* and he did fairly well, he can hear pitch VERY well, which is good. SO far we're off to a good start, hopefully it will stay this way.
