Shostie
Also while at the Mall yesterday wasting time between meetings. By the way the second one was a FACULTY meeting not a faulty meeting. That's humorous in itself. Anyway, I bought a CD of Shostakovich's 5th Symphony. This adds to my collection of my favorite symphonies of all time. I buy them as I see them and when I find the extra funding to purchase them :) I'm seeing a trend of what kind of symphonies I like. They tend to be written by German composers. Big, Brassy, and dissonant and written in the 'modern' period (late 1800's-now) though I really only like the stuf that was written until about 1970, after that it gets a little too weird for me. Shostakovich also led an interesting life as a quasi-commie, though if you read about his life and such, you'll find out more. So here is my plug for an old dead guy, go listen to the 5th Symphony (#8 is also good) and read a biography. GO GET YOUR FREAKIN' CULTURE FOR THE DAY! or week, or month....
