Premature Freakoutulation

So it's yesterday at about 4pm. I get home from school. I was wiped, the whole getting up at 5am will do that. Upon my arrival here, I remember that I'm going to be the only one here until about 8 or 9 pm. Awesome. So I put on my pj's and play WoW. After about an hour I start to fall asleep at the keyboard, so I wander the 3 feet to my bed, pick up the laptop and watch House season 2, because I have yet to finish it. So I'm on disc 5, on the episode I had attempted to watch the previous night but fell asleep. It's about 6pm by now, so I'm chillin' watchin me some House with Chief, when the computer flickers a couple times and shuts itself off. I know the battery is bad, but it was plugged in. (The battery will stay charged a total of 30mins on a good day). Or so I thought it was plugged in, then I remember the power cord I stumbled over at 5am that morning, so I unplugged and replugged it into the computer. Still won't turn on. Crap. Might I remind you all this is an Apple.

I look at the Apple website and find the nearest authorized Apple fixer people, CompUSA by the mall. That sure beat driving to the Kenwood mall in Cincinnati to the Apple Store. Anyway, off I go. Luckily all I brought was my laptop, which save me some embarrassment. 10 minutes passes and I arrive at said store. I wait for a few minutes for the counter guy to show a dude how to use his brand new Acer laptop. Then it's my turn. I notice that their fee to even look at the thing is $150, that's not including parts. Ouch. So he pokes and prods at it, checks the serial number, tries to turn it on, and still nothing. He asks me if I have the power cord, I tell him yes that it was plugged in at home. So he talks to his technician to see if he'll do the work I need on it and to get a price for the part I need (I think it was the logic board) or at least so they thought. They quote me a price of $700-$1000 then the $150 on top of that. I know Apple isn't cheap, but damn. I say ok, and take my laptop and leave, headed to Cincinnati to see if I can get a better price, but I stop at home first to find warranty stuff because he asked for it, and I didn't bring it, so I decided before I hit up the Apple Store, I would find it and take it with me. This ultimately saved me. I get home, trip over the bouncing dog, and run upstairs to where I'm sitting now, open the lucky drawer, grab the paper work, then for some reason, glance down at the power strip where I see a white cord unplugged, from me tripping over it that morning.

D'oh.

I run out to the car, get the laptop, plug in BOTH ends of the power cord and she boots right up. I call myself a dumbass, go get Chipotle, and eat it while watching House season 3 on TV. Then I crawled right back in bed to watch more House.

Moral of the story? Don't be a dumbass. I'm glad I discovered I was dumb, and not the CompUSA guy.
