So I emailed the Indiana Dept of Education to find out for sure what I need to do to get an Indiana teaching license. They send me this link, which then overwhelms me with forms and whatnot. I've talked about it here before, it really truly makes my brain hurt. It's like being back in college again and having a big project due in a couple days and I have no clue where to start. Why can't I just send them a copy of my Ohio license and have them say "cool, here's an Indiana one too." That would just be too easy. One of the things I have to have done is a NCATE Recommendation form completed. I have to get ahold of the licensing advisor at BG and have them fill out this form that ultimately says "yes this person went here and yes this university is accredited." Isn't that what transcripts are for? Oh wait, isn't that what my OHIO TEACHING LICENSE says. Reciprocity my ass.
I may also be a little bitter because I'm partly dumb. I noticed on this list of 10 or so things I need is a copy of my Praxis test results. Ok, cool, they should be on the desk here somewhere. Oh wait, I cleaned off my desk over Thanksgiving. Ok, they're in the drawer where I put my transcripts and other important teaching papers. I open the drawer and they aren't there. My next thought is that they are in my car from when I made copies of them last. I run out there. Negative. Then I stick my hand way back in the drawer, still nothing. By this time, I'm getting frustrated. Fine. I call ETS (the testing service) and have them send me a new one, costing me $35. The lady then informs me that the order cannot be canceled the once it's processed. Probably because I'm not the first one to do what you're about to find out. I hang up the phone, sigh and go about deciding where to start on filling out this paper work. Then I give up and decide to pull the drawer completely out. All the way in the back? Praxis test results. Not 5 minutes after I hung up the phone. The kicker? I read the website closer and find out that the Praxis test results need to be sent directly from ETS. Not from me. Sonofabitch.
At least I have a back up copy.
