I'm a Closet Softy

The following is an exact copy/paste email from my cooperating teacher after the concert tonight. Yeah it's sappy, and damn I'm gonna miss those kids! This is just adding to the reality that if everything goes well Thursday, I might have my own students to get attached to, only it will be super hard to forget these guys. Luckily Diana is student teaching there in the fall, so that will give me an excuse to come visit. Either way, continue reading....

CONGRATULATIONS on your conducting this evening! I WAS SO HAPPY FOR YOU! You did an amazing job with those kids and I'm so happy that everything went well this evening!! How do you feel? I thought the band played AWESOME. In fact, it was probably the highlight of the year with that group!

I really enjoyed having a chance to meet your parents tonight. I thought it was so sweet that they took the time to drive up to Toledo to be there to see you in action this evening. You are lucky to have such supportive parents!!!! I hope they weren't embarrassed that I asked them to stand! :-) What did they say to you after the concert? Were they impressed with how you did? I HOPE SO...if not....I need to talk to them again! hee hee!! They were so nice - which doesn't surprise me since you are so sweet too!

Ok, now that the concert is over, I want you to know something. I have had about a dozen student teachers over the years. Usually I let student teachers conduct ONE piece at the final concert. I've never had a student teacher that could handle doing three pieces on one concert.......so........you are to be commended!!!! I hope you aren't mad that I kept that bit of info from you!!! I thought it was awesome that you could do so much tonight. You have grown SO much over the semester and I'm so proud of what you have learned in your time at Whitmer. You love teaching and it shows every day! I think that's AWESOME! I hope you keep your passion for music education. I know you'll make a huge difference in many kids lives..you already have done so with the kids in our district. We are lucky to have had you with us this semester. I'm so glad it all worked out that you could be here!!! I'm going to really miss you having you around!!!

I'll see you tomorrow afternoon. Those kids are going to break out in a riot when you walk in with pizza. Are you prepared for that????
